By the end of the decade, the all-electric P1 successor should be on the roads, opening a new chapter for the legendary manufacturer. In 1964, after his success in different categories, the first McLaren racecar, the M1A, was built. The first true McLaren, however, wasn’t an F1 car but a sports race car that was instantly competitive in both Europe and the United States. It competed in the first-ever Can-Am championship in 1966, where the team placed third overall. The model that the 765LT is based on, the 720S, has been replaced by the 750S, which essentially improves upon every element of its predecessor. Ayrton Senna claimed three world championships in 1988, 1990, and 1991, with Prost winning for McLaren in 1988. The brand returned to winning ways in 1998 and 1999, with Mika Häkkinen winning the driver’s title in both years after intense battles with Michael Schumacher in the Ferrari. Two years later, in one of the greatest battles in the sport’s history, James Hunt won the 1976 driver’s title after barely beating Ferrari’s Niki Lauda. Moving forward to the 1960s, Bruce McLaren’s achievements didn’t stop with his Formula One success. He also raced in multiple other motorsport categories for a variety of different teams, most notably with Ford in 1966 when he won the Le Mans 24 alongside Henry Ford II and Chris Amon.

The car had a naturally aspirated V8 with over 580 PS (430 kW; 570 bhp); however, it is not thought to be related to the P8 project. Founded In 1963 By The Legendary Bruce McLaren

The entry-level Sports Series consists of the 570S, 570S Spider, 570GT, 540C, 600LT and 600LT Spider. The Super Series, considered to be McLaren’s core model range, originally included the 650S, 625C, and 675LT. These were replaced with the 720S in 2017 (and 720S Spider in 2018). The high-end Ultimate Series was led by the P1 and P1 GTR, now it includes the Senna, Senna GTR and the upcoming Speedtail, intended to be the successor to the original F1. The F1 and Umarkerts Review 12C were retroactively included in the Ultimate and Super Series, respectively.

The company’s headquarters, the McLaren Production Centre, was opened in 2011 in Woking. In collaboration with Mercedes-Benz, McLaren produced the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, a luxury grand tourer with supercar performance. Powered by a 5.4L supercharged V8, the SLR was manufactured in Woking from 2003 to 2010. It combined luxury with carbon-fiber construction and high-speed capabilities. Moving to 1988, one of the most successful partnerships in Formula One history began, with Honda supplying engines for McLaren.
